SUPERLATIVES -SUPERIORITY
Os adjetivos
superlativos são utilizados para descrever um objeto que se encontra no extremo
superior ou inferior de uma qualidade (the
tallest, the smallest, the fastest, the highest). Eles são empregados em
frases nas quais o sujeito é comparado a um grupo de objetos.
Substantivo (sujeito) +
verbo + the + adjetivo superlativo
acrescido de “est” + substantivo
(objeto).
EXEMPLOS
My house is the largest one
in our neighborhood. (large)
This is the smallest box. I've
ever seen. (small)
Your dog ran
the fastest of any dog in
the race. (fast)
FORMAÇÃO
DE COMPARATIVOS E SUPERLATIVOS REGULARES
Em inglês, é fácil formar o comparativo e o
superlativo dos adjetivos. A forma depende do número de sílabas do adjetivo original.
ADJETIVOS
DE UMA SÍLABA
Adicione -er para
o comparativo e -est para o superlativo. Se o adjetivo terminar em
consoante + vogal + consoante, a consoante final deve ser duplicada antes da
inclusão da terminação.

Os adjetivos podem
formar o superlativo pela inclusão de -est. No caso dos adjetivos
terminados em y, altere esse "y" por um "i" antes de
incluir a terminação.

Os adjetivos de três ou
mais sílabas formam o comparativo através da inclusão do
termo more antes de cada adjetivo, e o superlativo, pela inclusão da
palavra most.

Comparative: estamos fazendo
uma comparação, comparando alguém ou algo. Ex.: José
is smarter than Tom. (José é mais esperto
do que Tom). adjetivo smart (esperto)
Than
– nos remete a uma comparação; estamos comparando 2 pessoas: José e Tom.
Superlative:
estamos afirmando um grau máximo, qualificando (superiority) ou desqualificando
(inferiority) alguém ou algo. Ex.: José is the smartest. Aqui não estamos mais comparando, estamos
afirmando que José é o mais esperto entre todas as pessoas de um grupo
específico.
